| Skills | Responsibilities: Serve as the primary communication and facilitation link between Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) and Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) to address HIV-infected prisoner needs and access to support services once released. Coordinate the HIV/AIDS Partner Services Program and the Peer Education Program within two Michigan prison reception centers. Counsel HIV/AIDS-infected prisoners for the purpose of eliciting information about at-risk partners, who are in need of partner services delivery by local public health departments. Consult with MDOC medical staff to assist in the interpretation of diagnostic test results relevant to HIV/STDs. Consult with MDOC medical staff to advocate for prisoner medical and psychosocial needs relative to HIV diagnosis. Coordinated and monitor the peer education counselor program for content accuracy and adherence to MDOC policies. Conduct training of trainers to peer educators to deliver HIV/STD prevention information to fellow prisoners. Assess the need and coordinate efforts to expand HIV/STD prevention messages and educational programs to other correctional facilities such as camps and residential programs. Coordinate, serve and work with community advisory groups and existing agencies such as Michigan's Prison Re-entry Program to address needs of discharging prisoners infected with HIV. Assist in the research and development of educational programs and materials to increase HIV/STD awareness and education among correctional officers and medical staff. Monitor the facilitation of Michigan's Compiled law 333.5129 of 1988. Coordinate activities to promote knowledge of partner services in the local county jails, court systems and area probation programs. Support initiatives undertaken through Michigan's Partner Services program to enhance services to local public health and other funded programs.
